Social Networking Sites Aid Identity Theft
The threats to users on social networking sites arrive through a variety of avenues. Some users have their identity compromised via phishing sites that fool them into revealing their logon credentials. Other users click an email or website link that leads them to a web page that installs malicious software and collects their personal data. In some cases criminals become "friends" and check a user's profile in the hope of guessing a password.
The information available for others to see is controlled by users, but many members of social networking sites fail to check the privacy settings and assume default settings are appropriate. You have been warned!
